With its winning recipe of value-for-money, thrifty gas mileage and a huge dealer network, a Corolla has been sold on average once every 40 seconds for the past 40 years.

Now into its tenth generation Corollas are  manufactured in Japan, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and Venezuela.

However production in the US, based in  Fremont, California, ended in March 2010.

Sales of the car really took off during the 1970s oil crisis as its frugal four cylinder engine offered great mileage, a feature that continues to add to its popularity today.

Production Ready Toyota iQ and Urban Cruiser Unveiled

Toyota is going to officially unveil its production version of the iQ microcar that was shown in Frankfurt last year for the European market.

The iQ measures less than three meters and seats up to three adult passengers with room left over for a small child or luggage. The iQ is going to go into production at the end of the year.
In addition to the production version of the iQ, Toyota is also going to debut the Urban Cruiser, which is essentially a raised version of the Scion xD that we have in the US. Toyota has yet to release any specs on the car, so you will have to wait until the car is officially unveiled next month.

CBU – Complete Built Up

A CBU import means a vehicle is completely built out of the country. The vehicle is tested and it can be driven once it lands on the shores. If a vehicle is tagged as CBU import, it means the vehicle is imported to the country as a whole piece. A CBU import does not mean that the vehicle is 100% built in its origin country. For example, a CBU Toyota ist imported to Malaysia can be assembled in Japan (Toyota’s origin country) or some other Toyota plants in either Thailand or Indonesia. However, most of the time but not always, the import will be done by picking the nearest country. Most Toyotas in Malaysia are imported from Thailand due to the geographical location. The quality of a CBU vehicle very much depends on the QC (Quality Control) of the plant.
